Take a hint from great sports people too - try some creative visualisation. Do it for a few minutes every day so you start believing it.
Picture yourself stepping up on the stage, use your imagination to picture yourself doing your routine and going down an absolute storm, the crowd love you! They're cheering themselves hoarse. And you are the most confident person in the world. You are so cool, so sexy, so accomplished. Picture yourself going through the whole of the routine, it will help get it in your head too. You feel on top of the world. Imagine the sounds, the colours, hear the music - then turn it up several notches (possibly up to 11
for all the anoraks out there). And then imagine how ABSOLUTELY BLOOMING BRILLIANT you'll feel when you step of the stage, blooming heck, the audience are getting to their feet and giving you a standing ovation. And your heart is buzzing, racing with all the adrenalin and endorphins from having succeeded. You did it! You got the first one under your belt and you did good.
Yes I know it sounds a bit wacky (and don't expect the standing ovation in real life, but hey this is your fantasy and anything to boost your confidence is worth having a go at, and creative visualisation really does work - you ask anyone who's won a gold medal).
And the other thing is to know your routine back to front and inside and out - practice, practice, practice.....if the nerves set in, if you know your routine to the letter your head can go onto autopilot. Knowing that you've done it a million times before can also stop the voice in your head saying anything negative - tell them 'hey it's only 3+ minutes, and I've done this a million times before, so **** off voices!'
Breathing too. Calming yourself down if you can before you go on by dropping those hunched up shoulders, and taking some nice deep breaths in and out really can do wonders.
But mainly, don't worry about the nerves. They're totally natural, and part of your body's fight or flight system from caveman days, your body realises that this is something a little 'risky' so it's pumping adrenalin into your system to help you get ready to run if you need to. So actually your body is helping you. This extra adrenalin is going to help you get up on that stage. If you tell yourself you're not frightened, you're excited and this is going to be FANTASTIC! you'll find everything a lot more fun.
BREAK A NAIL! and let us know how it goes!:excited::hug:The Russian Doll Lass - like Shrek's onion, but with sequins...

Don't drink! You need all your concentration during your first show. (But go nuts after! You'll need it).
I had the scariest first show, a real baptism of fire. The compere knew it was my first show and he riled the crowd up so much (at a rock venue). I was first girl of the night and they were screaming and hollering. I think there were a few rugby boys in the crowd too. But the girls were the rowdiest!!!
It was rad. I loved it. It's ALL about you!!

Best of luck Sweetie - not that you'll need it, with all the work you've been putting in, I'm sure you'll be brilliant! :twothumbs:
Are you going to be putting a showreel or performance piccies of your debut up? :excited:

Hi! Wow, it's so exciting to see everyone here who is planning to perform! This is a quick add on question, hope you guys don't mind...but, how long was everyone learning before they decided to try and get a booking?
I have always loved vintage 50s and have just started burlesque...and already all I can think about is having the confidence and skills to get up there asap!
