Just get booked...then you have to do it for fear of being black balled from all future burlesque nights for not showing up! That was my plan anyway, that and a two drink limit
But it was still quite possibly THE scariest thing i have ever done, but like one girl i was dancing with said, its only 3 mintues of your whole life. And i promise you'll come off that stage and want to get right back on! xx

I agree with Adelina - there is nothing like a booking to really focus the mind!
Don't worry too much about being scared, it's perfectly normal, just try not to let it take over your thinking. Remember burlesque is supposed to be fun first and foremost (and that includes for you as well as your audience)!
If it helps at all just remember that the only things you can really do to completely screw up your routine is to freeze or not show up at all, anything else is fixable. Whatever happens onstage just laugh at yourself and the situation and carry on dancing, even if you have to improvise for a bit. :cooler:
It's also worth mentioning that your audience does not know your routine. If you make a misstep, or have a wardrobe malfunction they have no way of knowing that wasn't supposed to happen to begin with!
I'm sure you'll be brilliant sweetie! Best of luck! :twothumbs:

Hi Rose, i'm new to burlesque too, i've got my first booking on 30th jan and am very nervous, its natural and would be a little strange if you were not nervous the first time. My plan will be to use the energy from those nerves and shove them into the performance (and hope for the best). You are gorgeous and i'm sure once you get on stage that first cheer from the crowd at the slip of a glove or the flash of some thigh and you'll never want to come off. Believe in your act and talent through and through and it will be great.
Good luck with it all
xx

Nerves / jitters.........I got over them when I debuted by having a real giggle with the other girls. Don't use alcohol to relax though - bad idea. Just have fun and learn from your experience. You will have a ball and be itching to get your next booking!!!!
Good Luck Sweetie

I got over mine by pretending I'd performed before. Wasn't so nervous acting like it wasn't my first time

It's also worth mentioning to the compere/host not to introduce you on stage with '...and it's her first time ...and she's feeling really nervous!!'

Haha the first time I performed the host said exactly that!
I wasn't most impressed, and then when I got on stage they played the wrong music... and the DJ had lost my cd, so Mr C and Eris/Blitz had to run backstage to get it. And during that time the crowd started booing...
But do you know what? It wasn't the end of the world. I was remarkably calm, I did my routine (forgot a few steps but completely made them up- nobody knew!) and afterwards I was so so proud!
I couldn't wait to get back on stage! It's not even been a month since my last performance and I miss it so much
My next isn't until February, sulk!
You will have such a great time, and if something does go wrong, just make something up. If it is something beyond repair, try and make a joke out of it, nobody will be bothered that something went a little wrong!
Just get a booking, and force yourself to do it!
Ooh and well done for refusing alcohol- always the wisest option! :twothumbs:
Best of luck. You will love it, I promise. And if... IF... you don't, as someone else said, it's only been 3 minutes out of your entire life. I bet you will though
