Anyone interested in learning fire skills in/around Sheffield?
There was a batch of people after learning some fire skills in/around the Sheffield and Yorkshire-ish area a while ago. Any of you still interested as I've found someone to teach (though he won't be available till June as he's off to Germany next week!)
Let me know if you are interested and I'll try and sort out a teaching session

He is suggesting in the order of £5-£10 per person depending on the number of people and what they want to learn. Oh and he say's he won't teach fire breathing as it's just too dangerous!

It's not necessarily dangerous to offer a cheap class to be honest. Maybe the guy is just offering a cheaper deal because he knows there might be enough students to cover costs? Maybe it's a free venue or maybe it's funded?
With fire insurance finally at reasonable rates it's not exactly a high cost workshop as long as you are fully trained. We've done fire classes before with sponsorship from a firetoy maker which again cost us nothing - the students generally purchased the equipment at the end anyway.
I understand fully the insurance query; I just don't understand why it would be dangerous??
Neil - I presume you're just gathering interest before announcing the tutor.
RWP and Frayed Knot also travel to teach as do many other performers.
Being in Sheffield; an already full to the brim circus area I'd imagine you've found someone quite special
On a complete site note; this is the very very first year in eight that I haven't renewed my fire insurance. This means Edd is the fire boy for Frayed Knot and I can finally throw all the stinky stinky props away wahoooo!!! I guess I'd renew it for a gig if needed but really I'd rather not lol

Late response - I've been trapped under a packing case!
Anyways the bloke I've been talking to is a friend from uni days so I'm most definitely getting "mates rates". The quoted price will depend on what people want to learn- i.e. if he has the stuff and it only costs him time and fuel it will be in the order of £5-10 otherwise we will have to cover his costs. I haven't checked with the insurance status however as he's a pro performer these days (he's not around for a while as he's off to Berlin for a few weeks performing out there) and has just been asked to put together and run a fire performance team for on of the Sheffield circuses he should be pretty competent and sorted!
And Amelie - how can you not want to play with fire - it's nearly as much fun as power tools!“No doubt, a scientist isn't necessarily penalized for being a complex, versatile, eccentric individual with lots of extra-scientific interests. But it certainly doesn't help him a bit.”
