Newbie Lad seeking advice…
Hi everyone

Throughout the last year, I have been an active member of a local dance group, and have performed various routines at different functions - loved every minute of it and can’t wait until the next event!
Anyway, I recently became interested in the idea of male burlesque, and spoke with the organiser of a local burlesque group (the aptly-named “Aberlesquewyth” - led by the fabulous Rosie Cotton). She seemed enthusiastic enough about the idea, so I’m toying with various ideas for routines/performance styles to suggest in September (when the events start back up again).
This in mind, I ask the following:
-Is there a specific style of performance best suited to male burlesque?
-From a few videos I’ve seen, is it true that male performers can only be silly and clownish, but not seductive and sexy?
-Is there anything I should keep in mind regarding my very first performance? (I’m assuming that most of the audience will be straight males, and therefore the reception might not be great)
I’m also going to see if I can recruit guys from the other dance group, as one or two have expressed slight interest, and there should be a whole new batch of members in September!
Any thoughts?
(apologies for the unimaginative name, for now I'm stuck with the default until I can think of something clever!)WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Good morning Sir,
May I say thats a smashing blouse you are wearing.
Nope, it ranges wildly, from the fab Cherry loco with his massive fan dance to Comedy Capers from the Likes of Sparky Strange.
See above answer, Sexyness is where its at now I think.
Far more women in the crowds usually, I've so far found the straight males that attend burlesque evenings to be very supportive and join in on the cheering.

Hello Buck, thanks for the reply!

I found Cherry Loco on Youtube - that fan dance was indeed amazing (might get some myself when I have the money!)
I've already had a burst of inspiration today, and jotted down ideas - getting straight into practice (this is going to be fun!)
In the meantime, still struggling with a stage name - so far 3 possibilities:
Cody La Coy
Russell Enbush
Billy Blush
Hmm...
