Is it possible for somebody with no performance or dance history to become pro?
Hi there.
I'm kinda new to this( well been a member quite a while now but has taken me so long to get to grips with it all) and would really love to start learning burlesque after recently taking a taster session.
Alot of Burlesque dancers that i know of have been performing or dancing for the majority of their lives.
Is it possible that someone with no dance or stage history and not that much confidence can learn with the intention of performing at the end of it??
Its alot of fun but obviously quite a costly hobbie when you go to lessons so I spose I want to justify it to myself by having an ultimate goal.
Also is their alot of competition or is it in high demand?
Ooooh the questions.
Hope i hear from you lovely lot

If you enjoyed the taster session thenat least you know you will enjoy it and it's not a fad you'll waste money on.
Workshops and classes are a great way to gain experience and work out what you like or have a talent for. The MoB dvd is really good as well so maybe save your credits up for that, it covers everything from pasties to posing.
You could also try offering to maid at some local events, it would give you an inside look at what goes on and you can slowly gain the confidence to get up there yourself.
And the great thing about burlesque is that you don't have to be a great dancer or a great actor, as long as you enjoy yourself then your audience wil to.

You can certainly take classes, learn, and then perform - which is how I got started - but it'll take a LONG while (or some great publicists ;D) to be professional

i guess it depends what your definition of professional is
if you want it to be your 'day job' then obviously that would take an awful amount of hard work and self marketing etc (not so keen on the pimping word haha) you would also have to travel a lot!
dance and stage history is beneficial as it will have taught you howto hold and compose yourself and confidence to get on stage in the first place, also dancers are generally a tad more flexible and fit and aware of their bodys limits and what they can do well!
you can learn these things though, if you really want to
its easy to say 'oh id love to do this but im not a dancer so i cant' but the most enjoyable things arent always the easiest things to achieve are they? just imagine the buzz when you achieve things you never thought you would!

Hey brilliant thank you for the replies.
Hmmm yeah maybe not as extreme as jacking in my career and hoping to be a burlesque star but just dabbling in it from time to time would be great, more as a social way to go to clubs but instead of spending all my money behind the bar I'll be on stage and hopefully get drinks bought for me
Yep I'll def give it a go
nothing to lose

Where can I buy a head dress base?
They look good! I wonder if they're made from millinery wire?
