Bristol Burlesque
Hi, I have not done burlesque before but enjoy watching it and I have done some performance before. I would like to do a sort of 'drag' act where I dress up as a man but obviously underneath my costume I am a woman. I would not necessarily take my clothes off, maybe flash a boob here and there! but really more interested in doing a song but in costume...do people think this could be good? I would like to practice etc and hopefully get a spot in a show...anyone got any advice? Thanks

Hi there,
My advice would be to google your ideas, as sometimes other performers have a similar act - I can think of two performers doing a similar act to your idea off the top of my head (Pussy Velour and Marianne Cheesecake).

Hi!
I think the act you are describing is a Drag King act, check out Manhattan's Murray Hill for an example of this. If you are Bristol-based, it would be great to see you at my club night at Start the Bus on 31st of October. Check us out at Be More Burlesque | MySpace. We will have some great acts, so if you are new to Burlesque, please do come along for a little inspiration, or PM for details of my workshops.
Hope to see you at Be More Burlesque!

Kitty Kane often show cases new acts at her night in Wales 'Dolly Delights'. I wouldn't worry about anyone else having done a similar act. Most performers have done a drag act or two in their time, I know I have. It's only the wanabees who don't have enough of an imagination to think of a wide range of material who get het up about things like that.

I got into burlesque via a hen party workshop I attended in Bristol not long ago.
I think I still have the number/email for the teacher if you want? She was fab, really put everyone at ease and has a good knowledge of the different burlesque styles. I think she runs regular classes as well, which my be a good way to get the basics.
She may even be on this site. I wont put the details on the thread, but let me know if you want them and I'll PM them over.

Where can I buy a head dress base?
They look good! I wonder if they're made from millinery wire?
