burlesque life drawing and practice routine session in london.
hello there, i was reading through the post and thought i would mention that my mate runs a bulresque life drawing class with a practise performance routine session.
what happend last week was that performers practising their routine ran through their act to a small group of fellow artists.
it was a relaxed and non-judgemental attmosphere as we all understood this was just a practice to try out an act/performance in a small group just to test it. no pressure as it is not necerseraly the finished act.
we all had a good laugh, and afterward we done some burlesque life drawing of some of the artists/performers/models there. you dont have to be a good drawer or anything as it is just a bit of fun and a good evening.
i can always pass on any information to my friend if anyone want to come and experience it.
i am performing my comedy act soon as soon as i have finished the first draft of the script and have finished making my props.
it is a good small place to practise ones act in a small friendly group.
good luck,
cheers, rex.xWARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

I wonder if Molly Crabapple's Dr Sketchy's concept is patented?

From the main Dr Sketchy's website Dr Sketchy's Anti Art School: New York it looks like the phrase "Dr Sketchy's Anti Art School" is a registered trade mark but I can't find any info on whether the concept is patented or not.
Does it make a difference if Rex/Spunkermarine's friend isn't charging people but holding it as an informal get-together, which is what it sounds like?

whoooaa. what?

how can you patent a life drawing class or a place where one can reherse acts?
blimey!
thats going a bit far isnt it. it's like trying to patent a cafe or a shoe shop.
it isnt dr sketchy's, it isnt pretending to be dr sketchys and it has no desire to become dr sketchys.
it is just a place for people to rehearse acts and do a bit of drawing of and with some nice burlesque artists.
clio, i have phoned my mate and left a message asking about the details when the next one is. when i know, then i will let you know.
your all welcome to come and have fun, i just found it funny about all this patent thing.
dear honey wilde, i am not sure if he is charging, maybe a few quid to go towards the cost of the hire room/hall. i will find out.
cheers and all the best.

No worries, I was just curious really. I think the patent theme came up because it sounded so similar to the Dr Sketchys concept of life-drawing class specifically with burlesque.
I have heard of people have registered specific concepts involving burlesque before. Generally I think it's just good to know what's already out there in the burlesque/cabaret/entertainment/variety scene wherever you are, but it sounds like you're already very aware of Dr Sketchys
It sounds like a nice fun evening and good for anyone wanting to test out new material in a relaxed environment as you say. I'm sure there will be people interested if you post when the next one is on the forum
