Default I have a show coming up but dont know where to start...help pleaseeee!

First of all, this site is an absolute god send...I feel so welcome and feel like i can find any support and help from M.O.B which is great

Secondly and most importantly...I am booked for a show next month and need 2 acts....Problem is...i havent had time to work on the routines and dont know where to start....

Where can I buy cheap fans? Im on a strict budget and need some fans for one performance?

And is there any way to find out how to piece a good routine together....What themes should i do?? I dont have much time and any inspiration is welcomed

One of my performances will be telling the story of love and how it makes you feel alive

The second being about women being powerful and i want to go for a 'male extinction' theme...possibly a female vampiress theme? Any help on routines thanx xxxxxxx

Loves and Hugs...Miss Babette Petite

I dont mean to sound rude (but text can be miscronstrued) can i ask how you managed to get booked without even having an act? How does a promoter know what your style is? or if your act will fit in with the show?

This may be something you need to ask the promoter. You dont want to come up with, for example, a sailor routine, and then have another performer do that on the night as one of their established routines......

Yes I'm confused and slightly concerned by this as well! Us established performers work very hard to get gigs and keep our work at a high standard, so I'd be a bit wary of a promoter that takes on a performer with not only no experience, but no acts! maybe you should forget about doing a performance just yet, work on one act to get it up to a good standard, perhaps perform it for friends at a party to get the feel of working with an audience, then get a friend with a camera to take a few piccies of you in costume and maybe some of you performing the act, then get in touch with reputable promoters who run a 'showcase' or 'open mic' slot as part of their show. I can recommend some if you get in touch-my email is alleycatclub@gmail.com

Sounds like you are giving yourself a lot of stress by putting the cart before the horse. I think the ladies here have given you good advice its so much easier to work out your routine and costumes first and feel confident in them and yourself and then go looking for gigs.
    Good luck

I agree with the ladies who have posted before me. If this is your very very first Burlesque performance then i would suggest you dont rush into anything. Ones debut performance is a milestone in ones burlesque career. I'm not saying it is impossible to prepare an act in one month but if youre wobbly on your feet with your acts then perhaps it is better to politely decline the offer and wait for a better occasion. After all, there will be plenty more burlesque shows in future but you can only have one debut performance .

Please dont take it to heart. I am not questioning your right to perform or your right to the gig you have been offered. I just feel that any uncertainity that you you have at this stage in your preparation is indicative of whether you are ready to take up this task at hand. Regardless, if you do choose to go on with this performance i wish you all the best

Play to your strengths - stick with what you know. Are you a trained dancer/singer/comic actress/circus act?

At this early stage, and with a performance for an audience coming up, base your routines on the skills you possess.

If you plan to fan-dance, make sure you can dance first. If you plan to striptease, be sure to have a good understanding of movement and costume-interaction.If you plan to burlesque something, be sure to carefully plan the narrative/context/gags so that they are clear and effective.
