Newbie Damsel in Distress...Miss Coco Pops in need of a guidance?
Hello beautiful ladies, I am new here, well by new I mean this is my first post. I love burlesque and the sensual, powerfully seductive sexual art it exudes. I'm a true closet diva who loves singing Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee, Nina Simone, Janis Joplin and Dusty Springfield. I also love the South African diva' Brenda Faisse and Miriam makeba. I'm desperate to take the plunge and start preforming at burlesque events, but I have no idea how or where to start. I got plenty of self confidence and songs galore, but no music and no venue, no image (I guess have a vision though)...... can anyone take me under there pretty wings and steer me in the right direction.
Kind Regards

Hi hunnie,
I would recommend having a look through the meet up thread and also the learning Burlesque forum pages - there are lots of people in there with great tips! As you are in London there is always loads going on and also lots of opportunities to meet up as well. Probably best to hook up with a senior on here and they will help you with lessons etc and no doubt have you performing before you know it! It's a great step to make - you will love it!

Thank You
Hi, thanks for the speedy reply, i'm taking it all on board. Do you think its alright for me to just message the more experienced ladies and ask for guidance?
I guess I need to start getting some backing music and learn some songs : ) as well.
I'm gonna browse for some open nights or amateur to get my lil toes wet. I been watching Imelda May, Rebekah Kochan (brilliant) for inspiration as well as Josephine Baker and Eartha (whom I love)
Thank you x

Oh thank you for replying xxxxx specially as you singing is the core of your act. I has a look at your myspace you reminded me of a haunted 1950 film star, all sultry sensual and thick with deaths delicious darkness.. like decadent bitter sweet dark chocolate.
I loved Chill Karma and David Banner made me really smile, how did you go out bringing your character to life? I find it hard to sort through the so many different women I adore and admire. Did you focus on maybe two women?.
I like you, have a love of the more weighed down dark aspects of human emotion. I love to sing beautiful songs on misery, tragedy, vanity, heartache, lust, yearning and many more. I find all of this opens me up to experience my own beautiful dark depths. Suffering is a human condition that contains in it the most exquisite surreal, beauty.
I was worried about how to incorporate that into my character? maby i'm worried people will think i'm kinda depressing, or get bored of my songs o what society deems "negative' feelings?
I love 1920's and 1950's blues and all the tortured divas, I feel so moved by the level of soul, integrity and emotion they put into there art. Is that wrong? ahh help?
Madame Toleave do you have any more videos of yourself I can watch?
Much love

Oh i'm so glad it made sense. I had a look at the youtube and loved it (Sad Gemini). I,m a gemini and know what it is to live with one foot in heaven and the other in hell ( its actually very sweet.....once you get used to it lol). Your girlfriend is very beautiful, does she also do burlesque or preform?
Wow wow I hadn't realised that the "darker' side to burlesque was so common and celebrated especially the Vauderville stuff, me likes alot...
I dressed up and experimented today... was fab, i'm giving birth to my own beautiful lil monster yippee x
