I always seem to be overdressed for these events and I have even been asked if I'm one of the performers (sigh...if only I had the courage). I never seem to get it right, but after my first drink I tend to think what the hell, I feel fab anyway.

Not sure what the etiquette in the UK is, but sometimes newcomers to burlesque shows in Chicago sit quietly during the performance and give us a polite clap at the end of each number, at which point the host has to come out and demand to hear some cheering.

Just follow the lead of the people around you and you will be fine.

Yes! This is so true- I overdress for everything! To the extent that I don't really have any "dress up" outfits. I'm giong to a wedding next month and will be wearing the same thing I wear to Tesco.

But believe me, you will feel great and all eyes will be on you. In a good way

blitzgirl I couldnt agree more. I recently went for a drink with some ex work mates and my hubby said dont you think you are a bit over dressed? I knew I would be because most of the people I was meeting sadly only dress up for weddings.
I replied that even if I was as long as I looked fabulous what did it matter? I got lots of compliments that night which made me feel much more confident about my choice.
So when in doubt aim to look fab
