Default The Anti-Tassel Cabaret - London

I just got invited to this event via Facebook: Log in | Facebook

And I have a dilemma. With the event's name as it is, it's clearly important for them to stress that there is NO burlesque at this cabaret...

...but do I list it on ShakeItDoll.com anyway? It's still cabaret - and many of the audience members will be the same people who attend burlesque events...

    hmm.

    List it,
There's a similar event which I shan't name, which claimed to reject 'Burlesque'
But I think that implies Burlesque is simply stripping. Or 'dancing', as I'm frequently corrected to say.
But I think it's more of a mind set, and certainly not all performers on this site are dancers. Myself included.

List it to highlight the variety within Burlesque.

    Thanks, Myra!

That was my instinct, too. Just wanted a second opinion...

The impartial integrity of your site is important, but wow, thats a pretty offensive way to go about advertising your event, focusing on what it's excluding!

    Default Just my thought!

Its an odd one Beatrix to ask you to post it on Shake It Doll as its obviously a burlesque based site. But i really think its not to be taken offence at, In addition to my burlesque night with gwendoline I run a variety night which i may think could be the one Myra is referring to, and my cabaret partner and I made a decision to make it clearly not a burlesque night and to not include burlesque dancers purley on the basis that london is flooded with burlesque shows and we chose to ring the changes as believe it or not, not everyone loves burlesque dancing!! Odd I know but true! But I think since the event "Anti Tassel cabaret" is so flagrantly anti burlesque I would be relunctant to run it on your site. I know Im late adding to this thread but I thought I stick my two penneth in anyway!

    xx

Of *course* you should list it! Just because it's "Not Burlesque" doesn't mean it's "Not of Interest".

I think it's important to list as many different types of events which may be of interest as possible - as we can all benefit from going to see stuff that's not necessarily in our named "I like this" box. Otherwise we becoming boring people who only ever go to the same stuff again and again. This kind of happened to me in reverse with Burlesque and Rocky Horror! It took a lot of "honestly, you really will love this!" from a certain person for me to give it a shot.

Plus some of the best nights on the scene are the ones that focus on variety and not just burlesque - like the Candy Box for example, where as well as high quality burlesque you get a mix of other stuff (though it's still primarily a burlesque club)

Personally my favourite type of evening is something like Spangled Cabaret here in Glasgow where you can turn up and see a good mix of just about anything, including a little burlesque, but not exclusively one type of thing. And if one particular act is not to your liking, 10 minutes later something else will be on. I think Myra's night Soiree pretty much ticks that box too, am I right Myra?

Kind of like getting a bag with one of each type of pic and mix, rather than a big bag filled with just cola cubes and pink shrimps.

As you know my dear I couldn't agree more. I just find it a bit reductive to brand your night with something that it isn't rather than what it is. Personal opinion.
