Hmm... so I have to admit it looks quite good but reading the synopsis on here Sherlock Holmes makes me more concerned than I was...

It looks pretty - but it does seem to try and turn Holmes into an action hero when the whole joy of him was that he was an intellectual who out-thought rather than out-fought his opponents

oh dear! I was really looking forward to this but now I'm not so sure - I'll probably still go and see it as I'm a huge costume buff anyway

I'll admit I am intrigued by this.

I'm always up for seeing new interpretations of Holmes, but I hope they don't completely warp the essence of the character. There is a reason he has remained in the public conscious for so long even if you've never read any of the stories or seen any of the films/TV series.

I am a rabid Homlesian (or in America "Sherlockian") and for those interested in new stories about the detective may I recommend the following:

A new series of audio dramas by Big Finish (who make awesome Doctor Who dramas) Big Finish - Sherlock Holmes

And I've just finished re-reading The Tangled Skein by David Stuart Davies. It is basically Holmes VS Dracula, but it is a lot better than it sounds!

    Talking Sherlock Holmes online game

I am very excited to see Jude Law acting in the Sherlock Holmes movie! I see he is currently featured in an online game they have made to tie in with the film.

Since the movie only opens in December, I’m going to get my fix there in the meantime.

This film does not look good at all. Not at all.

Basil Rathbone or nothing, kids. Accept no imitations.

    Noooooooooo too camp.

"We must away to Baskerville Hall, Watson. Don't spare the horses, oh and Watson - shut that door"

Still Better Brett than Downey - dont get me wrong, I loves me some Downey, but I can smell this movie already, if you get my drift.

    This is Holmes:

    this is NOT HOLMES:

Not nearly as camp as the version by Rupert Everett - now THAT was bad!
