Default Cheap rail and coach travel.

Hey! I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me a bit of advice.

I do drive to quite a few of the shows that I perform at, but I'm not always going to be able to use the car, so I've been looking into rail and coach travel to get me across the country - and it's all giving me quite a headache now!

What's the cheapest way to book rail or coach travel? Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

    Many thanks,

    Coco xx

If you are eligable for a rail card- get one! Mind has saved me so much money this year, I'm going to London for less than £20 this week, would usually cost a lot more.

    It's a 16 - 24 one, and costs £21 a year (I think), but there's plenty of other types available.

Otherwise, book in advance. I was looking to go to Birmingham on Wednesday (now going on coach), and looking on the national rail website in November/December time there were some journeys available for not much more than £5.

    Thanks Bella!

Alas, I wouldn't be eligible for a 16 - 24 rail card (I miss out by quite a few years!) but I'll look into it to see if there are any other types of saver cards.

I shall keep an eye on the advance rail offers, too.

Thanks for your help, my dear!

I've got a couple of tips:

    1) Book as far in advance as possible. thetrainline.com will allow you to book 12 weeks in advance. It's worth it.

    2) If you can make trip in several legs with multiple connections, try getting singles to/from each leg of the journey. For example, going to Hull from London I changed at Doncaster, and found it was cheaper to get singles between London - Doncaster, then Doncaster - Hull and back rather than a return from London - Hull.

    virgin trains!!!
and book it as two singles on a return trip!
so don't just get an open return, book return, and specific trains there and back
i got to manchester from portsmouth for just over £40!

and thats a 6 hour trip

not sure how applicable this is(if at all!) but if you have a family railcard the savings are massive in my experience...i have no doubt other railcards offer the same discount. xxx

I think you need to have a child with you to use it.

Megabus is great for cheap coach travel.

If you decide to use coach, go by National Express. I used them for a while and they have quite good prices if you book in advance.
