Why Do You Use This Website?
Hello lovely MoB people. I'm currently writing a dissertation on how the internet has transformed the entertainment industry and I've been checking out a few burlesque networks and this one seems to be streets ahead of the rest.
I was therefore wondering why members keep coming back to this site instead of the other ones out there. What is it about Ministry Of Burlesque that draws your attention in the way that other sites don't?
My email address is nicky[dot]feingold[at]gmail[dot]com so please contact me there or please reply to this forum post.
Your help is appreciated.

We have built a community and as such know that this is the place we can be ourselves. we trust the moderators to weedle out the troublemakers and we rely on each other for advice, support and knowledge.
I have been posting since 2005 , this Burlesque forum differs from others as the topics pretty much stay on target and don't veer off into the land of badgers , cats, and sheds and such
we are now a family,

Everyone here is really friendly and welcoming. A lot of performers who have been performing in the scene for a long time and really know their stuff about all things burlesque are always willing to share their knowledge and help answer questions. More people seem to use this site than the others so you know your questions are more likely to be answered here.
There are always interesting discussions going on in the forums and i enjoy spending hours reading through them all.
Also, the site is easy to use which always makes a site more attractive.
Jobs are posted more regularly here too.

Can I thank everybody for all the responses I've had so far. I've not managed to reply to any of the emails yet, but I promise I will do so within the next couple of days.
From what I can gather from reading the emails, this community seems to have become much bigger than the sum of its parts. Almost everybody who got in touch said that they had met new friends on here who they regularly see offline too and I think that's a brilliant thing.
Thank you all again so much.

I agree with all of the above, plus I've met so many great (actual - we meet up for cake and such!) friends throught this site and moving to a remote part of the country from London, where I left most of my friends, it has helped me intergrate and find "my types" in an area where I found it hard to connect with people.
It's a great place for advice, support, sharing ideas, creativity and intellectual discussions as well as problem-solving - ie if you need critical information on legal issues, costume problems, etc, someone will always help out - and you can help out others if you have what they need!
Also as a promoter, I know I can find great artists here!
(plus it helps me skive a bit from boring work!)

I originally joined this forum as a networking mechanism, somewhere to meet people who I could form an alliance with.
Its now part of my daily life - I've met people who have become very good friends and people who I now associate with my business.
My moderating duties are another reason for me being on here so often, as a moderator, I answer forum users questions, respond to enquiries and generally lend a hand to forum members where needed.
The mod team also manage the 'behind the scenes' activies such as managing threads, event listings, job listings etc as well as keeping a close eye on threads ensuring that everyone treats people fairly and consistently.
Hope this helps,
DebDeb

For me, I like to watch the development and growth of the scene - and therefore, the emergence of new talent.
It's great to read about people's experiences (newcomer and veteran) and to try to shape and direct discussions to reflect their needs, to help resolve issues or even to open up debate about topics which seem to interest the media.
It is my job to be increasingly knowledgeable about burlesque and to be able to share that information for the growth of the community. It is my prerogative to nurture the emergence of a professional industry for the long term - and much of that starts with the providing of opportunities (and looking out for) the various nationwide scenes as they grow, raising the barre of expectation and encouraging aspiration.
I think that MoB has been an invaluable communication tool which has allowed confidence to grow, connections to be made and reflection to be considered.
It's been 8 years now for MoB's mission, 5 years since James created this wonderful community to reach ever more people - and it's probably over the past 3 years that we have really seen burlesque hit the mainstream and become a nationwide activity and even 'lifestyle' for some.
It's fascinating.
