Ask me one question about lap dance
I have to give a presentation on lap dance next week, with a Q&A at the end. Its the first time I have had to present my research (only been doing PhD for a few months). The people attending will not be experts in my field, they will mainly be physical geographers, so Im trying to anticipate the kinds of questions i am going to get asked. So....If you had to ask one question about lap dance, the way clubs are regulated or anything like that, what would you ask?
NB: Will accept both serious and comedic responses (pretty nervous so the latter might help lol).WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Lol I asked this question on facebook too, and have already had a couple of responses in that vein. Its like, "no, but I will give you a lecture on geography and the sex industry, if you are interested." hee hee

Does the location of a potential club affect whether or not their license will be granted?
I do wonder this, there's a lapdancing club opposite the sixth form college that I work at - it was on that Channel 4 documentary actually, some of the students were interviewed and it was put in a pretty negative light - which I can't imagine was the view of a lot of them, but there we go.
I can't see the problem to be honest, it's not in a heavily residential area, and it's not open until late in any case and the shutters are down in the daytime, there's no advertising or imagery outside, and although it's clear that it's a lapdancing club, it's also fairly discrete. I have no idea why so many people whinge about it. x

There was a really interesting article on Womans' Hour last week about whether it's appropriate that jobs in lap-dancing clubs and on sex chat-lines should be advertised in Jon Centres ( as apparently many are). Try the listen-again facility, or the home page. It centred on what sort of people apply for such jobs, and why.

Oh yes I will go and listen to that, seems they have a few related items on there. As for the location, in the UK up until April, a club could only be challenged if it could be proven that it caused secondary effects like crime, noise, public nuisance etc, so that complaints made on moral grounds couldnt be taken to court. Now the law has changed it has given local councils more freedom to decide how many and where clubs are, and is no longer restricted by the above complaints only, so that community members etc can now protest clubs next to schools based on inappropriateness. In the US its different, they use zoning to rule that clubs have to be x amount of blocks away from schools, churches and residential areas etc, in such a way that althought they arent banning clubs outright, there is nowhere for them to go.

Wasn't there also a radio interview where DvT was invited as a guest speaker - there were numerous posts about her being in Bristol - to do with something on a very similar topic??? I think it might have been a Womens Hour one or maybe Radio 4.
Good luck with it - I've found the best way to deal with awkward silly questions is to say 'that's a very interesting point, but it isn't really relevant to the scope of this research'

funny one
I would ask - is there a minimum distance they can get and are the issued with a ruler or tape measure... or is it like whiskers on a cat so they know they can't fit down tight spaces?
also if I had the time for a second question I would ask: when they rub their erogenous zones in front of you do they enjoy it or does it make it less fun when they do that alone at home?
