Tell me about Kent
Hello all! So, in April I relocated from manchester to Nottingham on the demand of my new PhD (move or you dont get the money). Yesterday I got an email saying my supervisor is going to Kent university, which means I have to too, as he is a world leader in my subject and im not going to get better guidance from anyone else.
So, what can you tell me about Kent? I have only ever been to London and Portsmouth downsouth, I no nothing about the area or the university.
Anything you can tell me would be good, where is nice to live, what attractions are there, any good bars? Etc
Thanks xxxWARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

I think skinny pete would be able to give you the best information as I believe he lives there, I know he runs burlesque events there also.

I live in Kent and spend most of my time just going in to London! Canterbury is a really nice city with lots of pubs and restaurants if you're there. Really pretty buidlings and great on a day like today to get rowed down the waterways. It's close to some nice beaches like Whitstable and Broadstairs too.
If you're at the Medway campus though then there's not a lot there. I lived there from when I was born and only moved away this year and it's just one of those bog standard UK towns with nothing particularly interesting about it.

You know The Steve (Meg La Mania's soon to be hubbie) is from Kent? He's not a great fan but would probably give a fair opinion of it!

Yup I'm from Kent, really depends where abouts you're based. Cabaret Rouge have got it pretty much spot on although Maidstone can be pretty cool in some parts. Medway is made up of Gillingham, Chatham, Strood and Rochester, Rochester probably the pick of that bunch.

Hey, thanks for the responses guys! I will be based at the Medway campus for uni, but in terms of living I dont really need to be there specifically, just somewhere nearby, that isnt dodgy. I like the idea of being able to pop into London.

For somewhere easy to get into London from then Dartford is probably your best bet although again it's not great. The nicest place near Medway is probably Maidstone but I'm not sure the transport links into London are great!
For real "Garden of England" Kent you need to head down towards places like Tonbridge Wells or out towards Canterbury and the coast.

Actually it turns out that although my department is based at Medway, the postgrad offices are at the Canterbury campus, which could be nice!
So if I wanted to live somewhere where I could get into London with relative ease, where would be good?
