Default Buying prescription glasses on-line - any tips?

I've just found some new Oliver People specs which I really like, but the price quoted was 349 euros ( I was in Italy) for the frames alone, plus 150 euros per lens for good-quality Zeiss lenses. Because I'm horribly short-sighted my prescription is +5.75 and + 3.75, so I usually have to have more expensive lenses so that they don't end up as thick and heavy as milk-bottles [anyone else remember when milk still came in bottles?!]

I've now found the frames on a website for about £200, but all the on-line specs suppliers don't seem to offer any choice of lenses - you just get what they give you, and there's no advice or information as to how thick they might be, what quality they are, where they were made, how light-weight etc etc.

Does anyone have any experience of/advice on buying prescription specs over the internet?

And while we're on the subject, has anyone found coloured daily-disposable prescription contact lenses?

    Thanks in anticipation,

    Viva x

    Ooooh, I bet they're lovely!
The only advice I can give is regarding the fit of the actual frames. As I'm sure you know, it's really important that that your eyes are perfectly centred in the lenses as this is where the prescription is most accurate. If for some reason the frames are slightly too wide or narrow on the bridge, then your eyes may not be central.
Do you have the measurements of the frames?
As for the lenses, is there an option to buy just the frames and get the lenses fitted at your local optician? Otherwise, it might be worth sending them email, they should be able to send you the info you need. You may have to get the arms adjusted at your optician, anyway, so that they fit properly on your ears. Otherwise the glasses might sit too close or too far away from your eyes.
    Good luck

    Default Frames

I'd contact Darren from Dead Men's Spex - Vintage Glasses, Frames, Spectacles and Retro Eyewear who does all my glasses. He primarily deals with putting lenses in vintage frames but also does modern frames too.
