Hypnotherapy??
Hi Everyone,
I am considering hypnotherapy sessions and I wondered if anyone here had ever had hypnotherapy and what your eperiences were like?
Do you think it's effective and would you recommend?WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

I've tried hypnotherapy before and it really didn't work for me - that being said I think it probably depends very much on what you expect to happen. If you go in thinking it won't work it probably won't work and vice versa...
“No doubt, a scientist isn't necessarily penalized for being a complex, versatile, eccentric individual with lots of extra-scientific interests. But it certainly doesn't help him a bit.”

For what, if I may enquire? The problem may - or may not - justify going through with it.

I am considering hypnotherapy to help with my weight loss efforts. I have dreadful willpower when it comes to food (the exercise routine I am fine with...I work extremely hard but I just cannot say no to carbs).
I thought if explored this option...it may help my determination.
Any thoughts?

I'm no expert on the subject, but they say you cannot be influenced by hypnosis into doing something you wouldn't ordinarily do. By your own admission you wouldn't ordinarily "...say no to carbs", so hypnotherapy probably wouldn't work for you.
I must say you don't appear to need to lose weight, judging by your (pre-Return To Oz) avatar.

Why thank you
I think based on yours and @evildrneil's feedback I will probably give it a miss and attempt the traditional 'willpower' method once more.
I am really focused in so many areas of my life I should probably just stop making excuses and get on with it in this area too :P
Thanks for your feedback, twas very useful in the decision making process.

I have had it , had to stop though cos it was expensive so cant comment on whether it worked or not. I think something that focussed on the ideas behind the lack of will power and reasons for eating would be more effective than just one "cure-all" session which some people offer or that dubious Paul McKenna stuff- worth a try if you can afford it, why not?

I have to say I found hypnotherapy very useful having used it for two seperate issues (OCD and IBS). However I do think you have to want to address whatever your issue is and see hypnotherapy as supporting that desire, not a magic cure for your particular problem. In my experience you also have to do the work between sessions to get lasting results. :-)
From my experience, I would give it a try.
