raffles - are they legal?
I held a raffle at my last show, just as an extra way to make money and get some audience interaction during the show. It wasn't for charity.
I have been to many shows in the past who have also done this and I had planned to do it at each show.
However, I have just recieved an email saying that holding a raffle that's not for charity is illegal and I shouldn't do it.
I've searched on google and can't find any clear answers... can anyone help??WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

I've finally found a website that explains things much more clearly:
Letter of the Law - Raffle Ticket Printing*|*Raffle Ticket Printing
It would appear that the type of raffle we often hold at burlesque shows would fall under this category:
"Private Raffle: If tickets will be offered only to a defined group, such as members of a club or employees of the same organisation, and the raffle will not be advertised or available outside this group, a Private Raffle will be appropriate. In this case, you will also not need a licence."
So i think we're safe from a long stretch in prison this time ;-)
