For the Discworld fans ...
Because I know there's a few of you out there ^_^
I've just found out that the next planned TV adaptation will be Going Postal. Now, this is one of my favourite of the books, but I have mixed feelings on this. I wasn't too impressed with Hogfather (Death and Susan in particular) and I refused to watch Colour of Magic because of the travesty of casting David Jason as Rincewind. So although I like the idea of Going Postal in live action, I'm dreading some similar terrible casting. Plus, as the OH has pointed out, it will be made or broken by the golems - and Death didn't give me confidence that these will be done well ...
So my question is this: who would you cast as Moist von Lipwig? And one of my all-time favourites, Adora Belle Dearheart? I can't think of anyone who'd be good as either, so - any ideas?WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Oh - I have the same feelings you do about the previous ones. Somehow the humour and subtlety can't be condensed into a tv film.
For Adora Belle Dearheart...... decades ago anjelica huston, now...... maybe Seana Kofoed (Jane from Men in trees), or Tamsin Greig. In fact definitely Tamsin.
And as for Moist......John Barrowman? or someone less memorable...

I have to say that I enjoyed Hogfather even though nothing will come close to the book and I rather liked Death, then again I am a huger admirer of the late Ian Richardson who voiced him.
But I suspose when your dealing with something as amazing as Discworld, you can't please everyone. It's such a well loved world and lets face it nothing ever beats what is in your imagination.
If I were going to make a Discworld book into a film it would either be Mort, Guards! Guards! or my favourite Small Gods.

On second thought John Barrowman would totally be Reacher Gilt.
Who would be Groat?

I'd make Soul Music in to a movie I think :-) That would be fun. The main problem is most my favourites are the later books like Nightwatch. Which wouldn't make much sense without the background.

True..... but damn it I like her! :-) Think it would have to be complete unknowns as the main characters tbh. But whoever they cast will be one eye on the promo opportunity........
I'd be happier if they kept the well knowns for the smaller parts. Then the main characters could just be the discworld people to me :-)
But in a perfect world we'd have no fun bitching about stuff :-)

Definately Wyrd Sisters for a TV conversion. Granny Weatherwax for some reason I imagine as a great character to translate to the small screen

Big fan of the Watch sub-series of books too myself. As for Moist Von Lipwig though... for some reason I see David Tennant?

Oh my god ... I can see someone in casting thinking that's a good idea only too clearly ... that would lead to a complete boycott from me I'm afraid - I'd like to see someone with some actual acting talent in the role!
Not a big fan of the Watch - no, let's rephrase that, not a fan of Vimes ...

No? I love Vimes - his whole story arc is just wonderful. He's so old school cowboy, didn't Pratchett model him on Clint Eastwood?
I'd love to see Masquerade done, yes I know it's the Phantom of the Opera but it'd make a brilliant movie parody. Or Witches Abroad!
My personal favourite is Reaper Man and I hope they never do it because if they messed it up i would be too upset for words.
Adora Belle Dearhart... someone attractively strange, Winona Ryder if she were younger and taller. An ingenue with bite. She's a bit Tim Burton heroine-ish.
