    Default Feeling poorly....

OK, so this isn't strictly Burlesque Chat but I've had an upset tummy for two days, am house bound and not allowed to eat :-( and feeling a bit miserable, especially as food is my favourite thing in the world!
Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for giving me some brilliant reading material and if anyone has any suggestions for things to cheer me up, please let me know!
    Love to all,
    X

Click the Videos drop down menu above and enjoy some Burlesque goodness - distraction therapy can be a great form of relief.

get a caring friend to bring you a colouring book and some felt tips, i swear its really relaxing!! if you can risk it money wise get on ebay to search for bargains (i usually get carried away so try and avoid it!!!) if you have 4od or BBC iplayer you can catch up on wierd documentaries and things like that, get in the bath and stick a face mask on and just relax!

Hope your feeling better soon, being ill is horrible xxx

    Sing along to this dear.

To commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP.

One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favorite Things" from the legendary movie "Sound Of Music". Here are the lyrics she used:

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts ,and hearing aids and glasses,

Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,

Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

    When the pipes leak,
    When the bones creak,
    When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.

    When the joints ache,
    When the hips break,
    When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Written and sung by Miss Julie Andrews.

Have a fun day if you can sweetums.

I will be singing this at my wedding on 17th September, should go down a treat!

    Michelle.

    Awww, poor thing

Having had a dodgy tum for the last month (in fact longer!) I feel your pain!

Why are you NOT allowed to eat though? Current best practice is that if someone has an upset stomach yet they feel able to eat then they can, preferably some plain carb based foods like plain toast and try to avoid dairy (when you have diarrhoea the enzymes in your tum that usually break down lactose in milk are often inactivated making the problem worse...)

Make sure you try to drink plenty, oral rehydration sachets-like Dioralyte are advisable if you've vomiting and diarrhoea as you can dehydrate pretty quickly.

Hope this helps a lil and that you feel better soon

    thank for all your suggestions!
Amethyst, the lady at NHS Direct said I shouldn't eat til i stop running to the loo. That hasn't stopped yet so still not eating. I think I'll have to have something soon, though as the tummy ache has gone and i'm feeling a bit light headed from hunger!
I suffer from IBS and I think she assumed it was connected. I think it might just be a tummy big or something.
Anyway, enough of my medical conditions. This is NOT the glamorous side of these forums , is it :-)

    Odd.

This has made me doubt myself and my training lol Ive gone off and checked my reference books, handwritten notes and several websites and it definitely says eat if you feel hungry but stick to plain carbohydrate foods....

In fact, if you check out the NHS Direct website (hopefully the link works...) it says exactly the same thing! It shouldnt matter if its a bug or IBS related. Unless its food poisoning....

Diarrhoea Treatment - Health encyclopaedia - NHS Direct

You could try something like Immodium, which will stop the diarrhoea, or Dioralyte Relief, which will help prevent dehydration and contains rice powder extract to help slow the diarrhoea.

Hope you feel better soon pet

Maybe the NHS direct lady was concerned that your problems have been set off by a food intolerance so didnt want you to continue eatting sed offender, you should eat bland foods like dry toast and drink plenty of water to replace what you've lost. NHS can be a bit of a joke, i rung up once and they tried telling me i could have a hole in my lung and tried to send and ambulance out when all i wanted wa avice on how to self treat the flu. Hope you're ok, i personally find avoiding dairy and fruit helps.
