Default What about songs that "Get to you"?

You know, those songs that make you just stand and cry for no reason or, maybe there is a reason coz it reminds you of something/someone/somewhere.

    Here is my starter.

    1) Spice Girls. "Viva Forever. Makes me cry everytime I hear it or try to play it. Reminds me of something in my youth. All I can say is "Thats me!" when I hear the lyrics.

2)Johnny Logan. Whats another year. (Eurovision winner in 1980 for Ireland)

The lyrics remind of everything I lost when I lost my shops, flat, bikes, self esteem in 1993. I just stand and cry.

I have two that I can't hear without crying, though the first one is cathartic tears rather than painful:

Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends ....mainly because of the video with Jamie Bell in it that reminds me a friend of mine who died in the army

and Who Wants To Live Forever by Queen, from the soundtrack to Highlander - but the meaning to this for me is a bit too raw to talk about here.
The Russian Doll Lass - like Shrek's onion, but with sequins...

I tend to be drawn to fairly maudlin songs (the Celt in me LOL!) and love

Dont Want To Miss A Thing - Aerosmith - because danced around the kitchen with my baby son in my arms the first time I heard it and it's still my wee love song with my Hellboy

Love is the Answer - England Dan and John Ford Coley - corny, but I love it!

Set Fire to the Third Bar - Snow Patrol, because it reminds me of someone whom I loved dearly and who dumped me for a younger model. We lived quite a bit apart and I used to trace the map to where he lived, just like in the song. Ah makes me weepy even now!

Army Dreamers - Kate Bush - has there ever been a better anti-war song?

Any of those angelic choruses in Walt Disney films.....like when Bambi's mother is shot....you know what I mean

Proud - M People It's the Primary School song and every time I look at their wee scrubbed and shining faces singing their hearts out, I totally tear up. Which is bad when I'm sitting on the stage in front of them. I have to pretend I've got a cold!

I've mentioned this before, but 'Rainbow Connection' as sung by Kermit The Frog is GUARANTEED to get me every time!

Unlike the last time I mentioned this, I would appreciate it if everybody didn't spontaneously pm me with YouTube clips of this as I'm likely to pick them up at the office and I can't start crying in front of Lord Dashwood as he will chastise me for not showing some British stiff upper lip!

Easy To Be Hard (especially the film version sung by Cheryl Barnes) from the musical 'Hair'.

'Don't Come The Cowboy With Me, Sonny Jim' by Kirsty MacColl (when I heard Imelda May sing this at Candy Box, I had to go into the dressing room for a moment to recover!)

I'm sure there's more, but those two are the main culprits.

Oh aye, Wicked Little Town from Hedwig and the Angry Inch gets to me sometimes for some reason.

I usually like to keep my songs upbeat, but every now and again, a tender note will slip through my cheery demeanor.
My Immortal by Evanescence is a beautiful song, and I've often toyed with the idea of hoiking it for audition purposes, despite it being a lady song.
From a more musical theatre perspective, I love the reprise to "I'll Cover You" in Rent. That is really very powerful!

But I have to say the song which practically had me in tears when I heard it first, and again when performed live, "I Wish I Could Go Back To College" from Avenue Q. Bloody sad of me, I know, but the song just nails the post student blues perfectly!
