I got into bellydance first as well, have been doing it for about 2 1/2 years now and still feel like a beginner! But I love having something I can really focus on, the challenge of trying to get the moves just right. I haven't performed burlesque or bellydance but it's likely that if I ever do brave the stage it will be to combine the two as the solo bellydancer in a group routine that the amazing Gilda Lily is devising. A bit scary!

Myself and my dear Count became regular burlesque goers after recieving a request from Secrets of the Budior Burlesque in Sheffield on myspace http://www.myspace.com/secretsoftheboudoir . He was lured by the bevy of beautiful ladies performing and I by the oppourtunity to make a new outfit and buy another hat lol!
It was a great night; lovely venue, friendly welcome, fantastic up and coming performers and a brilliant compare who also did a few performances with his band. We have continues to go back to that event and many others which don't clash with my work rota:thumbsdown:! we love the glamour, sparkle, drama and humour. I'm just abit miffed that we didn't stumble on the scene earlier!

Bea, this thread might get more attention if it was moved to Burlesque Chat. Maybe give Dashy a buzz?
For me, I got into burlesque through an unhealthy obsession with Tura Satana (of Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill! fame). On researching her, I discovered that she'd been a burlesque dancer and instantly became obsessed with the asthetic. A friend and I had organized a number of club-nights in Glasgow, where we'd had ambience dancers and through chatting to them, I guess I caught the bug.
Then, for my 21st, I'd organized an intimate burlesque event where some of my friends -- Hell's Belle, Alabama Rose, Vendetta Vain and Daiquiri Dusk -- would perform. Being that I have THE WORST case of performer envy known to man, I bought a set of fans and threw together a routine which went down well. I got roped into performing at Gypsy & Viva's Panopticon Showcase a few days later and, thanks to making a lot of contacts (and friends) there, I've had at least a gig per month since.
Now I'm a resident performer at Cheesecake in Capitol and I'm all set to get my hands dirty with a new burlesque / cabaret / freakshow venture next year in the Soundhaus.

I've kind of been aware of burlesque for a while (I'm not sure where - possibly osmosis!) but only discovered the details of what was available when a friend asked me to help organise a hen night (yes I know - but for some reason I get invited to more hen nights than stag nights!) We busily organised a burlesque based one before it got vetoed as the bride to be's mother would be in attendance but by then the damage was done
