Miss Naked Beauty - Opinions?
So I've just finished watching Gok Wan's Miss Naked Beauty on Channel 4, and I want to know what you lovely ladies thought of it.
I read an article in thelondonpaper today saying they were looking for someone really avergae, but I disagree. I think they had a gorgeous variety of women and I think each one of them would make a great beauty ambassedor for real women.
But what does everyone else think?
Did you like / dislike it?
Do you think it was a bit false?

I found it a wee bit contrived. Though I like the concept of helping women to celebrate themselves as they are, I dislike the approach that a number of programmes have had lately that seem to suggest any make up is hiding.
Whilst for some people it is protective (like the lady with the scars), it simply isn't that for everyone, certainly not for me. My love of red lippy doesn't mean I'm unhappy with my natural appearance. The same I think is true of piercings and tattoos (though I don't have any so I can't be sure of this!)
I think all the contestants were very pretty though. I especially liked the Scottish lady with the piercings, who was a lawyer.
I may watch bits of it but shan't be avidly viewing.

I must agree with you chaoskitty. I think they kept talking about make-up being a mask and then Myleene talking about her experience in the jungle annoyed me a little.
The judges were being very hypocritical of the girls wearing make-up, when they sat there caked in the stuff! I think make-up is all about giving you a little boost of confidence and not a mask or shielding who you truly are, that's what personality is for.

I didn't watch the show, but I was approached by a researcher and asked to take part in it...
I got the impression from the get-go that there would be different 'types' of women who would add up to create Miss Average. I didn't want to be the token tattooed lady - I've done enough of that for one lifetime.

Nice concept - shame about the execution. Oh and the red-top title!
A much better program has been British Style Genius on Westwood, McQueen and Galliano

I didn't see the programme so am woefully ill qualified to comment but from the promotional stuff that I have seen it looked awful. I don't like the idea of any beauty contest when it comes to women I'm afraid because it goes right back to the old ideas of males as functional and females as decoration. I find the idea of pitting women against each other incredibly demeaning and as arbitary as the standards imposed by Crufts. The scene where all of the participants were herded together in an empty swimming pool and hosed down looked appalling. Why do people allow themselves to be treated like that? Perhaps the rest of the programme wasn't as bad as this? Please feel free to reassure me.

Can't comment on the show, obviously, but as for makeup, tattoos and piercings - I do it because I'm quite fond of me and want to decorate my body and draw attention to it.

Just felt like throwing in a name-drop here. The diva in question is Miss Dawnimatrix, compere for both Cheesecake & Rockaburley in Glasgow, as well as being the ying to my vulgar yang.
As for the show, I'm totally keeping quiet. You SEEN the size of her? :daft:
