Lightbulb Credit crunch chat!!!!!! money-saving tips

I am soooooooooo skint at the moment, like many others I assume, and thought it would be a really good idea to start a thread to share money-saving tips and advice and any bargains that had been spotted. This could be burly or non-burly hints and tips - as long as it will save our pennies.

My first tip is that ESSO garages seem to have the cheapest prices for petrol at the moment. I spotted it at 94.9 as I drove past but was too poor to put any in!!!!!!!

Please post any hints, tips and advice and together we will make the world a more cost-effective place!!!!!!

    kisses

Supermarkets are selling it at that price too (I think everywhere is tbh) - my boy saw it the other day at a Tesco, filled up the tank and kept going on about how cheap it was all the way home!

Our Tesco petrol station is an Esso one... the supermarkets ultimately get their petrol from one of the bigger suppliers. For me it was 96.9 at Esso so I was quite pleased

I've taken to making huge vats of soup and freezing it. Same with chillie and stew. Grab a bag out in the morning and by the time you get home it's ready to stick in the microwave.

Asda have their petrol at 94.9 too.

Buy food from green grocers, proper butchers etc, is usually cheaper than supermarkets because it doesn't have all the packaging, and is just a bit misshapen!

Im usually quite good at this sort of thing but today Im stumped

Although, I did manage to get pizza for dinner free and urgently needed a new duvet and managed to get one for free aswell!!!! :excited:

Called into my mums work and was telling her friend I was off to buy a duvet as its been very chilly which makes sleep difficult (even though Ive been wearing a tshirt under my pjs, two pairs of socks AND my dressing gown). Mums friend then mentioned she had a brand new spare one that someone else had given her-she only took it out of the bag to store it in her cupboard and I would be welcome to it AND mums giving her a lift home so I get it tonight....YAY!!

OOh, Ive got one!! Ok, so at around £4 its slightly dearer than your ususal, but Lush shampoo bars last as long as three standard 250ml bottles of shampoo, are kinder to your scalp and because they contain no preservatives and no packaging are also kinder to el enviromente!

If you're self employed, or have purchasing rights at your workplace, and haven't already join all the cash and carries. If you make sure you stick to non-perishable items, and preferably zero rated ones at that it really is worthwhile, eg. Wispas are currently 49p in most places (55p in whstingy), but last week I saw a box at the CnC that worked out, even with VAT ontop, at 30p. I don't have enough restraint to have 24bars of Wispa in my house and not eat them all in one go though!

Use mysupermarket.com before you do any online supermarket shopping.

Lean toward to smaller charity shop chains, they're cheaper than Oxfam, Banardos and BHF usually. (Though if you want a wedding dress Barnardos seem to have the market almost cornered!)

If, like me, you just have photos stored on your pc then maybe it's time to take advantage of one of the great offers around on-line for digital printing.

I signed up at jessops.com and was entitled to 40 free prints, just had to pay postage. They arrived today and are great. There are lots of similar sites available and you could, I suppose, join up to lots of them.

if you have a boots advantage card go to the points machine before you shop and see what vouchers they have because, the more points on your card the bigger the treat you can buy yourself yay!

only buy BOGOF on non-perishable items like tinned foods because, there is no point in having 12 yoghurts if you can't eat them lol!

if i am shopping online i buy a lot of my stuff through this site

    ipoints - Home

it is kind of similar to boots in that you get points every time you shop and you can swap them for items. you also get points for clicking on emails and silly stuff like registering with websites.

i don't know about England etc but in Scotland they have this thing called a day tripper and it costs £16 and with that 2 adults and up to 4 kids (also have one for 1 adult and 2 kids) can have unlimited travel that day - the kids basically go free cos it costs over £16 for me and my boyfriend to get a return on train from Ayr to Glasgow!
