TV in the USA is going digital, what about your country?
In February of 2009 the united states are to go all digital, there will be no more analog chancels. So if you do not have a television with a digital tuner, you need to buy a converter box that will allow you to still use it if you do not have a cable service. All thought this is a forced system, it will be a better quality picture to watch if you have a hi-definition television.
My question: will any other countries be going to this system in the future if not already?WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

The UK is currently going digital. It is a 'staggered' start with different regions having different dates for it.
It's OK for me but a real pain for the elderly or poorer families. My gran is 93 and her telly is soooo old it doesn't even have a remote control, let alone a scart connection. She doesn't want a fancy new telly as she's worried there will be too many buttons and will get confused so don't yet know what she will do!!!

Just a guess. she will need a part to the tv to be able to connect a modulator box to the tv, and then a digital converter box to the modulator. Or she could get cable. The other possibility is that she might find a new small tv with the digital tuner in it. A 13 inch goes for $250 to $300. in the US. HOpe this might help.

My frighfully rich brother in law bought my frightfully thick mother one of those digital recorder boxes type doofers what don't use a cd or nuffink............Plug and play it says on the box, plug the bugger in, switch the telly on, go to the channel wot yer want to record, press the RECORD button and away yer goes..............Can my mummy do that? Can she chuff! Press button on remote wot says WATCH ANOTHER CHANNEL WHILE RECORDING THIS ONE.......Nope, mummy just don't get it at all. Mummy sits and tries to program the thing to record..................:daft:
To be honest, the thing is really stooopid coz it wont record on a disc for saving and one cannot put a DVD into it to play.....................Sigh. Bring back live entertainment and valve tellies....................MUCH more interesting.
