It's the most loneliest time of the year...
So this is the fourth Christmas in a row that I will be spending away from my family, 12,000 miles away in fact, and I'm feeling kinda blue about it.
While I don't regret moving here from NZ six years ago one bit (I went back for Christmas in 2004 in case you think I've got my maths wrong!), it's been a rough year for a number of reasons and I'm finding myself missing them ever so much this year. I just got two parcels of little Christmas presents from my Mum and found myself in tears just looking at it!
I'll be spending Christmas with a friend so I won't be alone, and I am very thankful for that, and I am a Big Girl Who Can Look After Herself...but was wondering...those who will be far away from loved ones at this time of the year, how will you be coping?WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

A good post. I always have a thought for those amongst us who have everything and everyone but, have nothing and no one and are lonely just the same as a "proper" lonely person is at crimble time or any time of the year for that matter.
So, to all you in the MoB who have no one and or nothing, even though you have "everything", I am thinking of you.

Aw Honey, that sucks. I too am not spending Christmas with the person I expected to, not because they're miles away, but because they decided to leave me for someone else!! Rubbish...but then it does save money on the xmas presents

My eldest step daughter had that one Christmas, now, she is a bit of a devout Christian (for a barrister?) and don't play the field etc and so forth and expects the same back. Her then boyfreind she was engaged to told her he had to go back home one Christmas to see his mum about "something"......................My Stepdaughter saw him walking down the street with another woman on his arm and a baby in a pram......................On Christmas day..................About 20 foot from her front door..........................To say the wee lassy was gutted is a bit of an understatement.

My husband's working this year on Christmas day
I'll spend the morning with him, then drive 100-miles to see my parents, with my two adorable border collies. One of my friends spent Christmas all alone when she and her husband split up and it was his first turn to have the children - a normally lovely, cheerful person, she spent the day sobbing!
I'm having Christmas early this year - we do tend to have lots of Christmas celebrations as there are so many people to spend time with.
It's a funny time of year though, and I understand totally that it can be lonely - but I think it's because there are so many 'expectations'. Spending any other day alone wouldn't be unsual or conjour up strong feelings of lonliness.

Well, when she confronted him thirty seconds later he said to her in front of the "girlfriend". "I thought you would get rid of me if I wasn't there for Christmas coz I didn't know how to tell you." Now, the baby took 30 seconds to concieve, NINE MONTHS to grow and was about 4 months old in the pram..............Yeah, you are totally correct, men are complete :censored: as well as being :censored: never mind :censored:
This is one reason why I would never go out with a man, they cannot be trusted half the time.

Hi Kitten. I once spent the whole of Christmas from 23rd Dec til the 26th Dec on Boscombe beach sea front FISHING coz I did NOT want to go home and spend it with my wife at the time.......................One more crimble of non stop moaning and whining about her being "Agoraphobic John so I just cannot go to the girls for Christmas, we will just have to stay here and watch the telly"....YEAH FUGGING RIGHT!

Hey, hey, hey - some men can be utter shits - some women can be utter shits too! However people who act like this usually end up old, bitter and lonely as everyone works out that they are not worthy of time or effort and stay away. Relationships really are one of those places where you reap what you sow.
