Erotic Burlesque pics?
I have already PM'd Kittie about this but, what do the rest of you boys and girls think coz I am out of my depth and have no experience with what I might be doing.
Ok, I am thinkig about going in for an "Erotic Photographic" competition.
I have had a look through the winners images from last year and nudity did not seem a prerequisite.
The question is. All of you, those working in the trade or not, is Burlesque "Erotic" enough to enter a multimillion image, world wide competition or not?
Please don't flame me for I have no idea what I am on about, I image fluffy lickle animals and snotty noses, ice cream infused kids!
Hell, I don't even know where to start to approach a couple of you for a pic session or even what I want you to DO in the session!
Is "Malesque" erotic? Could it be erotic?
(Edit) I guess not then? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..............WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Maybe I didn't word this question correctly. Let me try again. I would like to enter this "Erotic photograph" comp, I would like to use Burlesque as the theme for some 12 images, do you all think Burlesque is "erotic" enough in classic pose and dress for such a competition. Also, who would like to DO a shoot for same?
Also, if folks would prefer to chat of line then either PM me or email me at my web site or at. purbeckphotoart@yahoo.co.uk

An interesting question. For me, burlesque can be sexy but not erotic. It may seem a subtle distinction, but I think eroticism (at least as I would define the term) is about arousal while sexiness is a bit more broad. I think that's what I think anyway. I haven't finished my first coffee yet.

Mmmmmmmm, I underestand what you are saying Dashy. Thing is, the organisers of the comp say they do not just want full front nudity and sex with boobs, bums, other ladies bits and willies, they want "US" to explore the more elusive side of "Erotic", the more "Subttle" side etc. Hence why I am thinking Burlesque and why I would like folks like Kittie and Fleur and Beatrix etc to come up with what they think of it.
And, just to get you all champing at the bit. The winner's images will go into an internationally famous and recognised book on "Erotica" AND, there is DOSH involved

I may not be the best person to comment but from a non performer's point of view is eroticism (don't know if thats how to spell it but...) not in the eye of the beholder? One man's or woman's erotica is another persons... (add a word of your choice here I can't think of one) What have you got to lose? I say go for it

HI Miss Dee, thanks for your comments. No, the eye of the beholder is three male and two female judges! And, as I do not have the paper work that they will work to, it will be a guessing game as to titillation, tassels, assels, whatever. And yes, I think I will be going for it BUT, I have just found out yesterday and the 12 images have to be in by Jan 31st next years
Tis going to be a tight squeeze coz I am not putting up the money for registration if I cannot get a couple of girls interested in time, if you see what I mean?

I sort of agree with Dashy - I don't think ALL burlesque is necessarily erotic....but I've definitely seen SOME that is. And I cannot deny that some has most definitely left me aroused.
I think fetish is more wholesale erotic than burlesque.
But I think you could definitely (that's my word today isn't it) take some erotic photos using a burlesque theme.
But I wonder if you should be more cunning. Implied nudity and implied sexual imagery or control/power is massively effective :eyebrows:
I love someone of the stuff Eva Braun and Martyn Roper do on their Pin-Ups project - check it out here: www.myspace.com/pinupalternative I particularly love black and white pics, playing with light and shadows - you can do so much with this to make pics erotic without any nudity at all...very voyeuristic I suppose. I love this: http://performingarts.georgetown.edu...s/Cabaret.jpeg
My fav is a black and white pic of Anna Fur Laxis dangling the ball gag provocatively outside the door of what looks like a church (but then that's just my sort of thing
)
I also love the fish out of water pics - seeing something or someone dressed in a certain way in a totally unexpected place. Virginie Notte, a French photographer is great at this and I love some of her pics. And Visual Distress has some absolutely fantastic out-of-the-ordinary erotic images: www.flickr.com/photos/visualdistress/
Just trying to find my fav pic that I've been meaning to do a re-versioning of that I'd enter if I were entering.....
Here's one - not burlesque at all, but I find it massively erotic: on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
But here's the one I want to fetish/darken up my own version of: .girl power bokeh. on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
But these might all be my own personal views, I suspect that 'erotic' is probably as difficult to define and for people to agree upon as 'burlesque' is as a term. The Russian Doll Lass - like Shrek's onion, but with sequins...
