I just saw this over on the BBC and was gutted - I adored Bagpuss as a kid (still do if I'm honest), not to mention Ivor and Noggin.
All sympathies and condolences to his familly at this horrible time.
A very sad day indeed.

Remember him through his wonderful programs guys. My step father thought the "Clangers" were the greatest thing on telly!
And, 83 isn't a bad innings on the wheel of life either!

Ahh my hubby will be shattered, Oliver postgate was his hero, thats what prompted him into his model making and animation career. He was a very great man, and his career just goes to show what you can do in the shed in your garden if you are determined enough!

I loved Oliver Postgate. Not only did he change the face of children's tv, but he was a great peace protester and anti-nuclear campaigner.
I named one of my daughters after a character of his. People still give her funny looks when she tells them she's called Soup Dragon*
My favourite character will always be Nogbad the Bad....he's kind of sexy in a disturbing kind of way. Noggin was far too goody goody. I told you I was weird.
*she's not really called Soup Dragon....but she was really named after another of his characters. And rather strangely she's also nicknamed Charlie Mouse.....oh and Melchett.....but that's another story. The Russian Doll Lass - like Shrek's onion, but with sequins...

Ah, Charliemouse and his friends on the Marvellous Mechanical Mouse Organ - huge childhood favourites of mine and I love their little songs to this very day ...

That Charlie Mouse is a bad influence on poor Bagpuss....goodness knows how chilly Professor Yaffle will be when we dig him out...

I'm sure it was watching The Clangers that made me so surreal, and for that I owe Oliver Postgate the sincerest gratitude

83 is a good age but it is still so sad.
I too adore Bagpuss and have only recently bought a book of his complete stories and a short story in a charity shop.
Hopefully, all of us that loved all of Mr. Postgate's creations will continue to spread word of what a genius he and all his creations are.

I still think that The Clangers was the best thing on t.v. ^-^
Most of my friends won't remember half the things that Smallfilms made, but thanks to older sisters I had pretty good viewing habits when I was a wee one.
Very sad, I always thought he had a wonderful voice, as well as being a really inventive animator. Children's programming doesn't have anywhere near the charm these days.
