Endoscopy - eeeep!
Hello!
Was just wondering if anyone here has had an endoscopy? What's it like? I've got to have one tomo (either up my nose or through my mouth, to look into my stomach), was meant to be yesterday so I got all psyched up... and it didn't happen. Which means I've had more time to worry! Know its not big procedure, very common... but still nervous!

I can't remember the name of the thread, speak to Fleur du Mal, I am sure she started it, there were lots of experiences, advice and links to give reassurance.
sorry I can't remember the name.

Shouldn't be a biggy - they will ask you if you want any sedation - if you have any problems with gagging / feeling sick I would go for that. If you do though you will probably need someone with you and won't be allowed to drive or go on public transport afterwards. At they very least they will spray the back of your throat with a topical anaesthetic to stop any gag reflex. By all accounts it's worse coming out than going in but if you are suitable calmed and sedated you probably won't even notice it happening

I've had endoscopies several times and they are fine honestly... you may be a little bit sore afterwards but no biggie....
the fear of them is 1,000 times worse than the thing itself!

Thanks so much for the reassurance
I was so prepared and not even scared on Tue, but having them change the date threw me! I've decided not to be sedated unless its completely necessary, as I'm more likely to panic if I don't know whats happening. Hopefully it'l all be fine, but if not at least I'l know! Thanks again lovelies x x x

I'd provide this, but I think Broomy has got a little confused. That thread was about laparoscopies which are completely different. I can still dig it out if you want to have a look though ...
You'll be fine doll, it's always scarier thinking about it than actually going through it

i would say go for the sedation as then you don't see the camera coming and your automatic reaction of gagging stops. For me they asked how nervous I was and when I said a lot they said that sedation was the best way for me and it was fine. However what ever is best for you is what you should go for.
keep well and let us know how you get on.

I had one done a few years ago. Cant say it was a pleasurable experience.. its uncomfortable, but not painful ( I opted for the spray) You will have a sore throat for a day or two after.
Hope all is well xxx
