Hello!
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, or if there's some kind of pinned thread somewhere that we're meant to introduce ourselves in, but...
I'm new, currently a performing arts student in Manchester.
Becoming more and more fascinated with burlesque, after a lifelong obsession with Marilyn Monroe (which progressed to an obsession with the era) and more recently, 1930's Berlin, especially cabaret acts.
Cause of my money situation I can't afford burlesque lessons or workshops right now, but hopefully I can take it up in the future.
So...hi!

Hi Stella!
Welcome to MoB
Ps: Want to know a secret about learning burlesque for free? Youtube! I don't know of many of the successful performers who took classes. They're really not necessary. Of course if you want to, that's great but don't feel you need to!
Just go on Youtube, search for various performers, watch as many videos as you can and see what the performers do. There is so much you can do in burlesque, the more you see the better. It will also give you a knowledge of other performers/acts so you know what routines to avoid/ which come up a lot etc.
Best of luck!Snowflakes and Sparkles

Hiyah Stella (ooh I want to shout Stella like Marlon Brando now)
Welcome aboard. If you've the time and energy you can search around the various forums on here and find tons of great info (and links to great vids on youtube....including December's!)
I know you haven't got much money - but a worthwhile investment would be to get along to a live show and you're ideally based for some of the best in the country. There's a Slippery Belle Manchester on the 20th Feb - oooh actually I've just looked - it's a fantastic line-up, and their 2nd birthday - you'd learn so much watching Anna Fur Laxis, Lola Pops, Warren Speed, Cherri Shakewell, Dani California and Bluebell Malone.....it's worth selling major possessions for the experience - and it's only £6 for NUS. It's at Bookbinder’s, 10 Minshull Street, Manchester from 8pm till late. And you can get more info. on their myspace here. The Russian Doll Lass - like Shrek's onion, but with sequins...
