Can you wash feather fans?
Hi, I recently purchased some second hand white fans and they could do with a bit of a clean! Is it possible to clean them some how? I've got a feeling if I wet them it will make them a bit tatty..... does anyone know whether this will be the case?
Please help!

I just had a look at the care instructions that came with my fans from ostrichesonline, it says you can wash the feathers in warm soapy water and hang them out to dry completely on the washing line, not on a radiator though as I guess they would catch fire fairly easily!
Once they're dry you can then steam them over the kettle or over a pan of boiling water to make them nice and fluffy again.
Not sure how this would work on staves though, especially bamboo ones which could go a bit weird if washed.....xxx

I don't know if it would work but you could contact your local dry cleaners, they often clean feather duvets so they might know something about washing feathers.

Oooooo thank you, think i'll try washing a couple my self and see how it goes. Luckly the feathers are detatchable so the staves won't get wet :-)
Thanks x x x

Hi, just to let everyone know I washed my fans by soaking them in soapy water and then put them in front of my electric blowy heater thing to fluff them out and it was a sucess!
Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback! I was told to clean mine by steaming them in the bathroom when I went for a hot shower, but it's great to have some experience of other methods reported back as a success!

Not the classiest story but I once vomited on a feather mask after mixing my drinks one Club Noir and the soaking in soapy water got it looking as good as new.
Yeaaaahhhh, I'm gross.

I think steam is better than a blow heater as the heater can burn or dry your feathers out. I used to use a hair dryer on mine but was told off by a hat maker so now only steam. I really need to was my fans lol
