Excuse my rant.
I just need to let off some steam.
I've just got an email from uni asking me to go and see them this week. No explanation as to why, though I have an idea and it's something I've already told 2 people in the same department. I don't have the money to travel all the way there for the sake of ten minutes to explain something that l already have twice. The lack on any information as to why I need to see them is also frustrating.
Plus I get anxious really easily so now I'm scared that I'm in trouble.
I can't think of any reason I would have to see them that I haven't already seen them about. For a course that tells us so often the importance of communicating with each other and multi-disciplinary working, they don't seem to practice it much!WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Let off steam all you want.
I'm sure you have probably tried this, but could you email or telephone someone about it. I know you don't like the phone but at least you won't have to travel to use it.
Lots of luck Lovely.

December - can you phone them and ask a secretary or admin person for some more info about why they want to see you? You could say that it's to make sure that you're adequately prepared for the meeting.
Or, you could tell them that you have other appointments that day that you can't reschedule but offer to speak with them over the phone if it suited them - a conference call? Again, an opportunity to find out just what the heck it's all about?
It's v easy to get stressed up about why one might be summoned to The Office - but getting yourself exhausted on the anxious hamster wheel about it without any real idea of what it's about is plain silly. And you know that ;-) So get more information from them to see what it's about. THEN worry yourself silly *grin*.
Tons of luck with it anyway!

I replied to ask why but no reply yet. If anything, I'm annoyed that it's no doubt something that can be sorted via email.

It might also be worth saying that you're a bit skint at the moment so can't afford to travel up, so can you resolve it by email or phone? I work in a uni and we're sympathetic to things like that. Well, *I* am!
Having been a student myself....

personally hun, id send an email to them (and their line manager if you know who that is) and tell them unless you are infomed as to the purpose of the meeting, it would be highly unprofessional and potentially a waste of their time and yours to be so ill prepared for such meeting.
Start as you mean to go on in the workplace! people cant just summon you for no reason!
then if you hear nothing...just dont go.....

I would deffo tell them preferably by phone (but I have it in my head you find phoning as difficult as I do) or if not by email about lack of cash and could you sort over phone or by email. Are you going into uni any time soon for anything else? Could you ask them to wait till then as you're already coming in....or would that be too late? Big hugs x

Hi December,
thats horrible hun, and I understand completely how you feel, no matter what anyone tells you stuff like that just plays on your mind the whole time.
Miss May Hem made had some realy good points and suggestions.
however if you have an inkling about what the meeting is about, you said youd spoken to them twice before about ? then e-mail and ask exactly what it is they want to clarify so you can have the info avalible for them so as not to waste their time LOL.
Not knowing the full story thats the best I can say however if it's something that could potentaily jepodise your future or cause major problems then i would take along someone or speak to the student rep.
I would say don't worry but I know it's not that easy.
