From Russia, with love...
Hello all!
Some of you may be aware of/heard whisperings of/met a dear russian friend of mine, Vlad. Up to now his history has been shrouded in mystery, his past a thing of shadows and his previous life in the KGB kept firmly under soviet lock and key.....
....that is, until now!
As a side project to the currently-known-only-as Top Secret Plan Charlie Whiskey (more details on that to follow), Vlad is getting a makeover....kind of.
With that in mind, firstly i feel i must do a big reveal. Let you all in on the biggest secret this side of the iron curtain. Finally expose who Vlad truly is.......
.....its me.
:disbelief:
Well, now we got that massive bomb shell out the way and done, i have been thinking hard over the past few weeks about how to build Vlad up as a character, and as mentioned earlier an interesting little side project has presented itself where i need to make more of him.
The problem is, i have come up with TWO different versions of Vlad, both very much a valid option and both presenting very different, but equally entertaining, opportunities for his "use".
With that in mind, i come to you, the burlesque public, where this extreme and bizarre creation has seemingly found a home, with the question: Just how do you see Vlad?
(basically, it me copping out of making the decision, whilst also gauging how people would want to see Vlad :twisted

Maybe I am one of the fortunate ones who has the pleasure of actually working with Vlad professionally but also know the 'real' Vlad.
I see 'Vlad' as a big burly beefy man who appears to be as hard as stone but on the inside he is a softy.
Funny, witty, love him.

Oh my god!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My whole world is disintegrating..................it was you all along??!!
First The Stig, now Vlad............next they'll be trying to tell me Father Christmas isn't real, or the Wombles were actually real people in furry suits...........noooooooooooooooooooo, this is all too much to take in.
*deep breath*
*composes self*
Ok, if I were Vlad (hahaha there's an interesting if not slightly alarming concept) I'd work on a character who's the Russian equivalent/nephew to such wide-boys as Arthur Daley, St Trinian's Flash Harry (the Arthur Cole one, not Russell Brand...shudders), Del Boy and probably most relevantly Private Joe Walker from Dad's Army: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFhJWMaD98M"]YouTube - Dads Army James Beck Profile[/ame]He's possibly a descendent of Vladimir in Anastasia (but if I admitted knowing that it would ruin my street cred). And possibly a smidgeon of Mr. Balowski the landlord, Alexei Sayle's character in The Young Ones, or his brother Reggie: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgbR_m_vW8s"]YouTube - Young Ones - Reggie Balowski[/ame]
Vlad probably trained for the KGB and was possibly even in it for a bit, but what he doesn't like to let on (although it might occasionally slip out) is that he probably got some sort of dishonourable discharge for pilfering, getting backhanders or selling stuff on the black market (and actually as TipTop says, deep down he's a big softy and his heart wasn't really in all the maiming and stuff). But his knowledge of their ways doesn't stop him joking about the things he would do if anyone wronged him....Whilst with them he also passed his 'interrogation techniques' exam with a distinction and he likes people to know that. But even so, he's more likely to sell his mother than have her buried somewhere.....
He's always on the make, seeing angles to everything, got an eye for the ladies too which is why he's got into 'helping out' with the burlesque scene (that and certain shiny items of performer's costumes mysteriously go missing when he takes them from the stage back to the dressing room and even more mysteriously find their ways to car boot sales....) He's got lots of acquaintances that could sort you out with stuff...wink wink.

Vlad is a Party man, loyal to the core. He knows where his alleigances lies, and that his duty to Mother Russia is above all other.
But peel away the layers if you dare (of which there are many, it's f'kin cold in Siberia) there's a subversive side. Oh yes. He may wear pasties on the quiet, Just to give him something to smirk about on those long cold days. He may even harbour dreams of being a louche lounge lizard. He has a secret! But as he's had it drummed into him from childhood , no-one's allowed any secrets in the Party. Because what have we got to hide? It's in the interests of all comrades that They Know. He may have a fine collection of satin knickers. But who knows? who knows. And he can never tell.
But you can't tell anyone either, Shhhh.... Cos he's a Party man.
