Default Job interview - advice please!!!

    Okay,

So i've got an interview on tue for a fashion design job i really really want but im absolutely bricking it!!

Im still a wee bit shocked i managed to get in interview never mind anything else coz my CV is well, sketchy at best. I graduated 4 years ago now and have never had any experience working in industry - I have had my own buisness so that should count for something - right?? I've been dancing since i graduated and well that doesnt really say much about my drive to be a designer does it? I'm just terrifed they will laugh me out the office

My portfolio of work is strong and i know i could do the job standing on my head but i'm really worried about explaning the last 4 years away! How do i brush over the fact that i have been taking my clothes off for a living? Also, wtf do you were to an interview for a fashion design placment? Do i make an effort to look smart and quirky or to i keep it simple? I applied for this job expecting to hear nouthing back and now I am terrified peoples!!!! :disbelief:

with fashion you have to show you have the creative and drive to do the job obviously they want to see experience but the first two are more important (I found this when applying for a degree!) , I think the use of burlesque can be helpful it shows your creative side to be different and unique plus designing your own costumes is fashion design experience in itself.

For the interview, just wear something smart but fashionable, let your portfolio speak for you, in any creative type job your portfolio is probably 3/4s of getting the job, as for the burlesque if they ask be honest about it, but probably don't go into any detail.

As for confidence, you've had your own buisness since graduating is anything anyone else throws at you likely to be harder ? I doubt it, so you're going to a job interview where you know, that whatever you will need to do for them, it's still going to be easier than what you've been doing for the last 4 years

hey beautiful i didn't know you had moved to cardiff!!

if any of the costumes i saw you make for bordello are even a fraction of your talent then wooooo you'll be fine you know you can do this job so thats most of the battle already!

if you've been making costumes consistently; why not make a portfolio of them and say for the past four years you've been making bespoke costumes for dancers etc etc whilst performing yourself. It's experience that is completely on topic, is current and might be quirky enough to make you even more appealable???

    best

    xx

    HI Beau
Firstly well done for getting a fashion designer job interview, Im insanely jealous.

I reckon you should wear something smart as that would be appropriate for an interview but at the same time it needs to show you have individuality which will tell them you have design flair.
Plus the fact that youve had your own business for years will speak volumes.
Dont worry about the taking your clothes off for a living bit, the fashion induxtry is a place where people have open minds.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

If they were going to laugh at you they wouldn't have invited you for the interview! Remember they have seen something they are interested so they want you - now you just have to decide if you want them!

Well done for getting the job!

I'm a bit late here but if I'd answered sooner I would have said just show them the "ghost of beau" photo in your gallery and say that was pretty much all the convincing they should need - amazing outfit/picture!
