Advice on putting together a burlesque act
I am a dancer based in Glasgow, I also love burlesque and really want to start performing as a burlesque act. However, I am not sure how to go about putting an act together- I don't have much confidence in my ability to put together something thats entertaining! I know DanceHouse offer classes, but I have a good background knowledge of dance, so am unsure if this is what I'm looking for. Does anyone have any advice or ideas on how to get started? Plus how to come up with my name? I like Miss Munroe. . . Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

i too have a dance background but have benefited greatly from attending classes...the next block of dance house ones begin at the end of april...there is so much more needed than just a good grounding in dance as i have found out...attending classes help so much with ideas...choreography...even getting your burly name...and to top it all they really are good fun and you get the chance to meet some lovely girls too...all the very best. ann. xxx

The classes are an option, but what is also quite useful is if you can get yourself along to a few burlesque events in and around Glasgow. This will give you a taste of the variation of acts that are out there at the moment, and you never know, it might even help that little lightbulb in your head light up!

I found researching burlesque helps too. There's so much on the internet that could help you with putting together the basics to start you off!
Best of luck xxWHISKY BLITZ~~~

Hi, I think classes are a good move. Go and watch shows, be inspired. I find that music is my main inspiration, I hear a piece of music and the routine and costume ideas just come to me. Choose music you love and get to know it well. I would also say that developing your character and thinking about the style of performer you want to be helps you to develop routines as well.
All I need now is to learn how to make things.... ;o)
Have fun!!

Thanks guys, it helps knowing that I'm on the right track, I just need to get a bit more involved in stuff now! Sounds like the scene is also a nice, supportive community to be involved in. Thanks again!
