Dr Sketchy Glasgow returns on February 22nd
We are excited about our hotly anticipated first session of 2009 - we return to our usual, candlelit arch on Sunday 22 February, 4-7pm at The Arches.
The line-up for this afternoon of sketchy antics will star stylish burlesque trio, The Duskettes, fresh from their highly-acclaimed debut performance at prestigious Edinburgh cabaret, Burlescapades.
They are being swiftly followed by the graceful, elegant and downright GORGEOUS Miss Hells Belle, making her Dr Sketchy Glasgow debut and boy, oh, boy we are delighted to have her.
As per usual the arty-cabaret activities will be overseen by the gin-fuelled, daft-wit and all singing nonsense of Rufus T Fahrenheit & Lucille Burn
You can expect the usual art and mischief in equal measure; music, free art materials, Dr Sketchy merchandise, well stocked bar, Twisted Starz Burlesque Apparel and the fabulous Miss Dolly Tartan on hand with her sweets and lollies!
AND as if that were not enough the whole thing will be rounded off with live jazz in the foyer by the painfully cool, Pigs Might Swing.
So, miss it, you should not! Book your tickets now from the Arches Box Office - 0141 565 1000. We fill up pretty quick so don't waste time buying your ticket at the door and get there early!
We've got many exciting names to announce for all our dates for the rest of 2009 so keep your eyes on our MySpace and Website for announcements!
See you there
Ciao

Hey Rosie, as a devoted fan of Sketchy I can say with some authority that you're certainly welcome to come along and just watch if you'd rather do that, but drawing is encouraged - they even do fun games where you can win prizes with it. The folks at Sketchy are very laid back either way and aside from having to put up with Rufus' jokes you won't face any hassle while you're there.
Most of the time I just watch the performers but every once in a while I'll join in the drawing. Either way it's a great way to spend an afternoon!

Not being silly, if you've never been it's natural that you might not know what to expect.
I'll go over the basics for you!
You don't have to draw, you can just watch and enjoy.
It's a very relaxed atmosphere though and it's fun to draw too! Basic art materials are on hand and you can just doodle away. No one has to see if you're not comfortable with that, but if you'd like to show off your work, there is usually a competition or two for the best/funniest/most creative piece of work.
The models usually do one routine and then will be 'posed' for varying lenghts of time. While they're posing, either music will be played or Rufus and/or Lucille will sing.
Sketchy is by far my favourite way to spend a Sunday! I get to see friends, relax, have a chat, do a bit of filming, watch some nice performances, occassionally do a bit of sketching, nibble on tasty bar snacks and sip on a soda and lime!
Rufus and Lucille are very friendly, welcoming hosts too.

I missed the last Sketchys due to money problems and bereavement so I'm so glad it's this Sunday, can't wait!
Please everyone come along even if you don't think you are good at art, there is no pressure, it's relaxed and informal, and even if you think you are crap at drawing, nobody is going to peer over your shoulder, you can do it just for fun, for yourself.
If it makes you feel better I knew nobody and just decided to start going on my own and now I'm a regular.
