yay!
Used to like Club Noir but after the last time I went oh nonono - and people still haven't forgotten the disaster that was the festival last year. but they still seem to have a large following so they must be doing something right, just ot sure what it is.....
One of the major downfalls for me is its just tooo darn big for a show

I think it's because they are riding on their name now. They are the most famous and publicised burlesque night in Glasgow and I'm not sure if there were any burley nights before Noir but it was the first one I heard of when I started getting into it.
Also, do they not have exclusivity contracts with performers? I used to always go thinking I would never see these acts elsewhere. Which is a good experience when those acts are good, but a bit of a let down when they aren't!

well I decided to email tina as I'm sick of hearing it be billed as a burlesque night on their flyers and she quoted it's the biggest burlesque club in the world on stv, but there's more fetish than anything else now within the crowd and one act on sat was def more that scene than burlesque. I love the stripping of burlesque, the ballet, the glamour, the theatrical performances and also the fetish side of burlesque but with the crowd it's becoming less of the fetish within burlesque, and more just fetish.
I'm all for people being into what they are but the fetish scene in glasgow is well catered for with violate etc but burlesque isn't. They are now trading on name as I don't see it as a buresque club. I've been to forty deuce etc and the feeling I get from them when I walk in the door is glamour, illusion, fun but when I walk into club noir all I get is a dirty looking place with a very large fetish crowd and not so much burlesque at all. There's no welcome hosts or anything. When I think of the biggest burlesque club in the world I think Minsky's, Betty Grable, Glamour, Illusions etc. It may come down to money at the end of the day but they're certainly not short and it takes very little to create that atmosphere.
Of course at first she didn't read my email properly and had a rant saying I offended her and my reply was very nice just stating these facts above and now she's ignored me, nice customer service. We go every carling night and now i'm just totally off the place. Normally i wouldn't rant on a forum but with no reply, why not.
I'd rather be known as a small burlesque night where it is a full burlesque night in terms of acts, atmosphere and crowd than the biggest burlesque club in the world with burlesque acts and a few burlesque fans dotted in the crowd.
rant over .... phew
