dance classes in and around west lothian
hi everyone, im totally new to the forum and i guess the scene too...however ive always been a fan of burlesque and all things vintage really.
at the mo i do 40s reenacting but my heart lies with this side of things rather than home front or militaria. im looking for classes in and around west lothian as im in sunny livingston. ive done various dance forms before from tap to bellydance with stopovers in disco and salsa and swing in between! hoping someone can point me in the right direction....many thanks in advance folks. ag.xxWARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Hello and welcome! I suspect your best bet for classes will be either Glasgow or Edinburgh. The wonderful (and MoB accredited) Viva Misadventure teaches in both places and her classes are the best starting point you will find.
I am also going to PM you about your other interests....Unleash your inner vixen with Queen Bea accessories!

Dancebase Beginners classes on a Monday night in Edinburgh will probably be the ideal thing for you!

Have a look at (and keep an eye on) the Dancebase website to see when the new term's classes start. :eyebrows:

Everyone is very friendly here, no need to be frightened! We are really lucky to have a fantastic burlesque scene in Scotland, thanks mainly to Viva and MoB Academy headmistress who was running regular classes in Scotland until last autumn. They are both incredibly talented, inspirational women and the strength, talent, and warmth of the Scottish scene is, I believe, entirely down to their influence.
Have you been to many nights? I suppose it depends how mobile you are - not so bad with a car but can imagine it could be difficult to get to evening events from West Lothian with no car! There's a couple of events coming up in Glasgow in a couple of weeks which will be great (Movers and Shakers and the following night there is a burlesque night as part of the West End Festival - can't remember the name but it's going to be excellent, two of my all-time favourite performers have teamed up for it). Then 4th of July is High Tease in Glasgow, which will be an absolutely first rate night, Blond Ambition who are producing it always do an amazing job and they have a fab line-up!Unleash your inner vixen with Queen Bea accessories!

thanks for the pointers folks...its a bit of a bind as i dont drive and have 5 kids which range from 12 weeks to 15 years, which neccessitate finding a babysitter as hubby works odd hours.
however im not about to let these minor details get in the way.....it just might take a bit of arranging thats all
.....
havent been to any evenings as yet and am eagerly awaiting some books on the history of the scene arriving soon id like to start doing a bit more research and get things right...hopefully!!!

Hello Agapanthus!
Welcome to the forums. I'm originally from West Lothian (Uphall actually) and unfortunately you would have to travel into Edinburgh or Glasgow for burlesque classes. But, you can get the train in straight from Deans then it's only a 10 minute walk to Dance Base from Haymarket. Or get the bus and pop off at the end of Princes Street, and it's even closer! The classes also finish early enough that you can get the bus or train back easily.
My friend and fellow performer Amelia Heart also lives in Livingston and she regularly travels for events in Edinburgh and Glasgow, so it can be done.
Good luck! Hope to see you at an event soon!
